So we were all set for our speaker this evening, but due to illness he had to postpone. This was no problem for our intrepid Bombshells who within a few hours had managed to reorganise everything so that we could have a craft evening instead.
Instead of the Met Police, crochet poppies were on the menu. 30 odd crochet hooks had been procured, as was the same amount of wool, and numerous patterns had magically been printed off so that when I arrived everything looked totally seamless.
Debs took on the (almost impossible in my case) task of explaining the complicated but beautiful art of crochet. I would love to say that I took to it like a duck to water, but unfortunately, although lots of our members produced poppies, I managed a tangle of wool barely recognisable as a poppy, this time there are no pictures of my creation. The beautiful yellow poppy featured at the top of the article was created by one of my fellow bombshells who was infinitely better at crochet than me!
Despite not quite creating a masterpiece, I have been inspired to have a go at home, and I know that there are a lot of my new friends at WI who will be able to help me out when I get stuck. Safety in numbers and all that!
