This month's meeting at BBBWI was a craft night. Our craft nights are very flexible occasions, if you don't want to join in with the craft, or you would prefer to bring along your own project to work on that's absolutely fine. I had decided not to do the make on the night as I was going to concentrate on taking pictures (which you can see above and below) I needed the pictures for Facebook and Instagram (links below) and for our website broadbridgebombshellswi.co.uk. There is also a competition being run by the WI called 'The Elizabeth Bell Photographic Competition, A Year In Your WI' which we would like to enter so my plan is to take lots of pictures during each of our meetings.
However, when I saw what we were going to make, I thought it would be a lovely gift for my mum for Mother's Day. Everyone loves a home made gift, especially mums, and so I thought it may be possible for me to multi-task. My new WI friends also encouraged me to join in with the make, assuring me that I could fit the photography in around the crafting... proving that the Bombshells really are lovely bunch of supportive ladies.
Debs our treasurer and avid crafter led the meeting, she had lovingly assembled kits of all that was needed to create an Easter Pinecone: a polystyrene egg, pins, ribbon and lots of squares of fabric. I chose a very pretty pink and white check fabric embossed with white flowers and we all gathered around Debs for a demonstration of the first stage. Whilst the pinecones look extremely complicated and intricate, after a few simple instructions we were able to go away and start folding and pinning the fabrics squares in a pattern around the polystyrene egg. Debs came round to each group to help with any issues we had, but it was all quite straightforward and before long our pinecones were starting to take shape. Back to Debs for another quite demo on how to finish off our pinecone with a decorative hanger and coloured ribbon and we were finished. Quite a few of us even managed to drink a glass of wine without producing something that looked like a dog's breakfast! #quiteproud!
So in the immortal words of the great Brucey "Didn't we do well?"
P.S my mother was completely thrilled with her home made mother's day gift = lots of brownie points scored!
