Pumpkin Carving at the WI (Witches Incorporated??)

October in the life of a WI group means our Annual Meeting. It’s a time to reflect on the past year and look a little into the next, with reports on finances given by our Treasurer, Lynda, and on activity and membership by our Secretary, Jo. As well, it’s the time for us to elect our Committee for the next year - our members chose to keep the current formation as it is and, as everyone was willing to stand again, that was finalised. Our President, Rowena, thanked the Committee for their work and, in turn, everyone thanked Rowena for her own tremendous input and for standing again for another year.

The serious stuff over, being so close to Halloween our activity for the evening was pumpkin carving. What a hubble bubble of noise and chatter around the room, some busily working on their creations and others having a right good chin wag. The wonderful aroma of pumpkin filled the air and before we knew it the evening was over – the time absolutely flew by! However, not before we had a lights out viewing of our pumpkins (lit by mobile phones in some cases, and battery tea-lights for others) and what a variety of ideas there were – amazing! A vote chose a winner – well done Vicky with your incredible cat silhouette which is pictured in the centre of the righthand image below.

And off we all went into the night – no doubt to set about polishing our broomsticks and dusting off our capes for things to come ….

Our next meeting on Tuesday November 26th is a rare crafty one, where we will be learning how to make eco-christmas crackers... I don't know about you, but I love a cracker with my christmas dinner, but I really can't bear the amount of un-recyclable rubbish they create and the silly useless trinkets inside which usually get chucked straight in the bin after dinner. Our homemade versions will be completely free of plastic and 100% recyclable, and because you can choose what goes inside them you can make them totally eco-friendly and personalised.

You will need to bring some bits and pieces with your for this craft so please watch your email inbox for instructions but in the meantime start thinking about collecting what you would like to pop inside your crackers and how you would like to decorate them, but please remember nothing un-recyclable, so no glitter or tinsel.

Look forward to seeing you there x
