Tuesday was a busy and eventful evening with our Annual Meeting, a literary quiz and a book swap.
We welcomed our newest member of the Bombshells, Bushra and two WI visitors for the evening: Erika from WSFWI and Pam, Secretary of Horsham Normandy WI and newly appointed Trustee of WSFWI. Pam is responsible for all those wonderful knitted post box toppers you will see all around Horsham. It was lovely to meet them all.
Members arrived carrying tins destined for the collection organised by Vicky for Horsham Matters. Each week there are lists published of those goods most urgently required and members aim to provide some of these particular things, but of course, everything is gratefully received.
As well as tins, ladies brought a neatly wrapped and so anonymous book from their own bookshelves, ready for the book swap later in the evening.
The evening commenced with the Annual Meeting. The Annual Report and the Treasurer's report had been circulated prior to the meeting and were accepted with a show of hands.
Sandra, Joan and Maire were confirmed in their roles as President, Secretary and Treasurer for the next year. And Sara was voted on to the committee.
Fiona who was a founder Bombshells member has decided to step down from the committee this year. Fiona has been responsible for public relations including the website, Facebook Instagram for the past five years. These will remain in her capable hands, but she will be stepping down from the committee and her role as Vice President which she has held for the last two years. There was a surprise for her from the Bombshells: a bottle of Prosecco and some delicious chocolates to say thank you for all of her hard work over the years. I have rarely seen Fiona lost for words, but she was so touched by the unexpected gifts that she took a while to recover and get back to her normal self! Whilst I am writing this I would like to say a big thank you to all of our ladies, officers and committee members alike who work tirelessly to make the Bombshells a great WI.
It was Fiona who compiled and chaired the quiz tonight .... and what a quiz it was!
We had rounds on Famous First Lines of books, Authors (or who wrote what), Book Characters, Fictional Addresses in books and Children's books. There was an 'Easy' round too, which actually wasn't so easy for some of us so there was lots of giggling, and laughing, whispers of "I've no idea", "it's on the tip of my tongue", or hopefully "yes, you're right, that's it!"
All the teams scored really well, but in the end, not one, but two teams tied with 54 points each and were declared joint winners! Both teams were delighted to receive a very pretty sea-themed bookmark as a prize.
To round off the evening, we all then chose a book from the pile of parcels, and with a couple more exchanges, everyone ended up with a new book to enjoy over the next weeks before we meet again in March. You can see us all in the photo at the top of this blog holding our new books.
If you weren't at the meeting and would like to test yourself with the 'Easy' round it now follows. The answers are at the bottom so scroll down to see if you got 10 out of 10.
