And Relax... And Change Your Life

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

So, January is over and Christmas is just a memory, but how could any of us forget the stresses of organising the festivities of the season... January is also the time for new beginnings, new year's resolutions and plans to overhaul our lives perhaps Dry January, Veganuary, a low carb diet, a new job, or any number of plans to improve ourselves for 2020. Whether it is time to relax, or make positive life changes, meditation can really help

How many of you have considered meditation as a key to achieving your goals? Well I certainly had not... I considered meditation was a tool to help you relax (which at it's simplest it is very good at) but it can also have amazing powers to heal (yes even broken bones) aid in breaking bad habits such as addictions or negative behaviour and it seems with practice meditation can change your life and help you to attain your dreams.

On Tuesday evening The Bombshells were delighted to have guest speaker, Silvia Camattari come and tell us just how all of these things can be achieved.  She started off explaining how she had come to be interested in meditation and how this interest literally changed her life.  As an end of life carer Silvia was using meditation to relax and ease her patients through the last moments of their life; when she suffered a catastrophic accident which left her with two broken arms. Lying in bed with both arms in plaster, not being able to do a thing for herself and realising this situation was going to continue for months she decided to use her time productively and really try to use meditation to change the situation she was in.

After three weeks of meditating and visualising the bones in her arms mending she returned to hospital convinced that the plasters could be removed, and that she was healed. Obviously sceptical the doctors listened and decided an x-ray would be the answer, and when they saw the results they realised that she was right. The plasters were removed and Silvia decided to make meditation a part of her life for good. She offers guided meditation to her clients and we were lucky to experience one of these...

We started off by dimming the lights and getting comfortable, when you get proficient at meditation you will find it isn't very important where you are if you need to meditate you can do it whilst waiting in a queue or in the Dr's waiting room, the beach, or anywhere you need to clear your mind and find peace.  We sat and listened as Silvia spoke softly to us and gave us instructions to relax each part of our body, to breath in and out slowly and visualise the parts of our body unwinding but at the same time feeling energised.  Silvia moved on to ask us to think of something we wanted to change in our lives and then think about that happening, becoming the person that we wanted to be... the meditation lasted around 20 minutes and was incredibly relaxing, but it was clear to me that to get the best from meditation we would all need to practice.

There are many ways to practice meditation, obviously the best way to learn would be in one to one sessions with someone like Silvia, but there are also many meditation apps available which you can do so long as you have a pair of headphones and about 10 minutes a day. I have often thought about looking into it and now I am definitely going to.

After a short question and answer session we all floated home feeling very zen!

Our next meeting I imagine will be quite popular among The Bombshells... on Tuesday 25th of February we welcome Helen from The Gin Kitchen, we look forward to finding out about this local business and hopefully get a chance to sample some of her wares.
