It's true! Anyone can craft and we all enjoyed an easy crafting session with Felicity Jennings last night. Felicity is the president of Spa Sweethearts WI and the owner of Felicity Crafts. Oh how I love to look at beautifully produced works of art, but I know in my heart of hearts if I had a go mine would never look like that... but this is not the case with Felicity's easy crafts and clear direction! Her main aim is to offer tutorials on easy, but professional looking makes for crafters of all skill levels (in my case virtually none) and using materials that can easily be found at home such as cereal packets, toilet roll innards and the ubiquitous photocopier paper, felt pens, pencils and glue stick... we've all got those right?
Felicity has so much experience teaching crafts to virtual novices and making it fun because she has been a primary school teacher for over 30 years and been crafting with kids for as long, so the Bombshells were a cinch as we were very well behaved and she could 'mute' us all on Zoom in case of any rowdiness!
Felicity has many easy crafts that she demonstrates, but the craft we chose to learn was how to make a beautiful paper heart decoration. We had the choice to make it in green for the 'Show The Love' campaign (which brings awareness to the ongoing fight to protect our planet from climate change) or we could choose our own colour way to make a card (perfect timing as mother's day is coming up) or it could be equally successful as a gift tag or hanging decoration.
Some of the Bombshells made along with Felicity, she provided us with clear instructions and lots of reassurance which gave me the confidence to jump right in with my crafting hat on. Some of our members preferred to watch the demonstration whilst enjoying a glass of wine and may (or may not) decide to make later, and others just did their own thing which looked like it was just as much fun.
It has to be said that craft making can be quite dry, but Felicity was great, she was never lost for words and talked about all her experiences as a primary school teacher both before and during Covid and the challenges she had faced as a result of the pandememic. She also talked of her role as president of her WI and how they had also coped with the restrictions of meeting face to face. In fact something good has come out of the pandemic for Felicity as she (with the help of all her lovely WI friends) has set up her own business and a YouTube channel to cope with the demand for her demonstrations.
So above you can see Felicity's creations and below there are a few of the creations we managed to put together within the hour, so that proves how easy it was.
After the crafting, we had a lovely opportunity to have a good catch up, where the time literally flew and before we knew it we'd been chatting for over an hour...
In our next meeting we welcome another visiting speaker Ken Lloyd who will be talking about the devastating fire at a local stately home Uppark House in Petersfield. Please come and join us on Tuesday 30th March at 8pm on Zoom! Not a member? Email Rowena at bbhwi1951@gmail.com for more information.
