I used to love Halloween as a child and then as the mum of a small child... well he's all grown up now and for several years I have mourned the fact that I had no excuse to carve a Halloween pumpkin. But not anymore! Since becoming a member of the Broadbridge Bombshells WI I have not only been able to carve pumpkins again, but also be in with a chance of winning a bottle of fizz! Sadly it wasn't me sipping the victory Prosecco this year but I had a great time with everyone else creating a fabulous lantern to pop on my doorstep for the 31st.
Once we had finished the hard work of carving, the pumpkins were lit and the lights went out. Everybody attending was asked to vote for their favourite, but after counting the ballots we found that there were joint winners: Sarah and Anne, their designs are pictured here.
Sadly because there could only be one overall winner Sarah and Anne's names went into a hat... Sarah's name was pulled out which meant she and her funny face design ended up taking home the fizz.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, they were all fabulous and very creative.
Some more pictures from the evening follow.
Annual Meeting/Elections
We also had some serious stuff to cover for our annual meeting and elections. As usual we tried to get this out of the way fairly quickly but ensured that we covered everything we had to... The Annual meeting is essential WI business but it is also a good opportunity for us to look over the fun we’ve had over the past 12 months, to elect a committee to see us through the next 12 and check on our finances. Due to the pandemic, the last year hasn’t by any means been normal for us. But we are proud to say that what hasn’t killed us has made us stronger!
We have had a varied and exciting program although much of it had to be conducted via Zoom: The Ghosts of Hampton Court Palace, Christmas Quiz, Facial Yoga, Card Crafts, Fire At Uppark House, The Mysteries of Tarot, The History of Corsletts Farm, Ice Breaker Bingo, Tai Chi and Burlesque. Despite the trials of Covid19 we didn’t miss a single meeting and continued our clubs and social activities whilst adhering to the constantly changing restrictions. The Bombshells have formed a strong bond over these difficult times but we are looking forward to 2022 with a renewed excitement and a dedicated committee and some lovely new members. Our 2022 calendar will be out soon!
All of our members were asked previously if they would like to put themselves forward for election to any of the Officer roles, or if they would like to join the committee. Likewise the Officers and committee members are asked if they would like to continue in their roles, or step down. Our lovely member Gill who has been a valuable member of the committee decided to step down because she has moved away from the BBH, but the rest of the officers and committee agreed to stay on and were unanimously voted in by the members present at the meeting, our committee now looks like this:
Rowena: President
Fiona: Vice President and PR Secretary
Mary: Secretary
Joan: Treasurer
Dawn: Membership Secretary
Lorena: Committee Member
Our next meeting is Festive Mixology with Christmas Tips and Tricks on Tuesday November 30th. Please note there will be a charge payable ahead of this meeting. Please keep and eye on your emails for more details.
