January - Bingo!

When I asked AI to create a fun title for this blog it came up with: "Can Bingo Improve Cognitive Function and Memory in Older Adults?" Well apart from the fact we don't necessarily definite ourselves as 'older' AI may have a point... as this is the 3rd time we have played in January, so we must remember is was great fun at least!
The simplest of games, our Bingo night gave rise to a great deal of laughter with some members winning four times while others not at all. It's the way the numbers run... The main purpose of our game of Bingo was not just to have fun, but also to give our members a way to 'move on' any unwanted Christmas gifts they may have received.
All that was required was to bring in a prize for the table and then keep our fingers crossed that we would be lucky, as mentioned some were much luckier than others! We were all having so much fun that we forgot to take any pictures, so you'll have to take our word for it!
January can sometimes feel like a long month, grey, cold and wet but at the Bombshells we are always busy and there is always something going on, somebody to talk to, something to look forward to and something to remember.

On that note we must look back to December and give a massive vote of thanks to Sandra, our President for opening her home up to all of us for a fantastic Christmas party.
There is always a huge amount of organisation, preparation and clearing up with an event like that, and we all appreciate this and thank Sandra for it.
We all arrived in starry, sparkly smart frocks and tops, ate from the extensive buffet, drank a little, talked a lot and had a super night. Well in advance Sandra had requested that we all bring in a photograph of our younger selves, Sandra adorned her walls and doors with our pictures and we then had to try to identify each other. With some it was pretty easy, with others impossible! But with out a doubt it was such a lovely thing to do and provoked a lot of conversation of times gone by and how certain people hadn't changed a bit. There was also a Secret Santa sack waiting by the front door for those of us who wanted to take part, and so those of us who were organised enough took home a Christmas gift to put under our tree at home.
Here are some pictures taken at the party, see if you can spot yourself:

And if a Christmas party wasn't enough, in January Sandra hosted 16 of us lucky members for a Burns Night supper. This is the second time she has hosted this celebration and it was a fantastic evening. In true traditional form, we enjoyed platefuls of haggis, tatties and neeps. A cranachan to die for and of course a dram of the hard stuff. Traditional Scottish music was playing, the haggis was duly addressed and plates rapidly cleared - a true testament to good cooking! Then just to make sure we hadn't had too much of the hard stuff we played a round of Dingbats... that woke some of the more competitive Bombshells up! Huge thanks to Sandra and Jo for all their hard work that evening, it was a triumph. And if you need proof, just look at the gallery below:
Some of us were able to get together at Stooks for a coffee and a lovely catch up. Thanks are due to Lorena for organising this and indeed, all the coffee mornings, afternoon teas etc. through the year.
We look forward to another year of fun with our friends at the Bombshells and we always welcome new members. Take a look at the rest of our website and don't forget your first meeting is always free.
