Local Deliciousness!

We spent the evening of our June meeting in the company of Lesley, from The Horsham Gingerbread Bakehouse, sampling both original gingerbread and the gluten free version, both were absolutely delicious, then we were treated to samples of her excellent biscuits, all baked in a small, family bakery near Chichester.

Founded in 2013 Lesley talked us through the development of Horsham Gingerbread Bakehouse, her own business producing local, original gingerbreads and gluten free biscuits. Lesley told us that she was encouraged by the Horsham museum, to research local gingerbread recipes in order to start producing her own.

Lesley brought in some interesting items for us to see, including original gingerbread moulds, sugar cutters, old recipe books and a small fire front oven.

Requests for Horsham gingerbread can be found dating back to July 1803, when Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote to his aunt asking her to get some gingerbread to take on a picnic. If it was as delicious then as it is now we can see why. We will not need much encouragement to go and buy some Sussex Alberts to go with the cheese on our next picnic.

Fortunately it is not necessary to contact Shelley's Auntie to procure some of your very own scrumptious gingerbread! Just head to their website and place your order for a free delivery anywhere in the UK: https://horshamgingerbread.co.uk/

Our next meeting is Rounders! Tuesday July 26th! Get your picnic together, your trainers on and come and have a fun game of rounders with us. If you're not a member we'd love to see you, just email Rowena on the address below.
