Rounders and Picnic

Every summer we try to have an outdoor meeting, so that we can take advantage of the beautiful (?) English summer weather and we can get some exercise. In the past we have learnt the ancient Sussex sport of Stool Ball (see previous blog post for details: https://www.broadbridgebombshellswi.co.uk/post/2019/06/26/stoolball-and-picnic) been rained off a couple of times and then last year when we tried rounders and picnic it turned out to be more picnic than rounders. Not to be deterred, we thought we would give rounders and picnic another go this year... and we're so glad that we did because it was a huge success.

The weather was a little iffy but we decided to risk it and it turned out to be a lovely warm (and dry) evening. We had a great turn out of players and pic nickers alike: our rounders teams boasted 9 players aside and we had plenty of people who were happy to watch, eat their nibbles and cheer us on with a glass or two of Prosecco.

After a little practice we decided to get going just in case the weather or the light failed us. Split into two teams with Fiona and Mel as team captains we all felt like it was a bit reminiscent of secondary school, but sadly without the advantage of the athleticism of our youth!

With Sandra, our President keeping record of our scores we had no idea who had won until the very end, it was a very close match, but Fiona's team just edged the win.

Thanks to everyone who took part, now see if you can spot yourself in the following photos of our evening.
