Who knew a good old fashioned game of bingo could be so much fun? We on the committee thought it might be a good idea to give it a try in order to deal with some of our unwanted Christmas gifts... just because you don't want it someone else might just think it's perfect.
The prize table was almost groaning with our unwanted gifts, there was chocolate, posh biscuits and other assorted edible goodies, rhubarb gin liqueur, Prosecco, wine and even some alcohol free fizz, a couple of candles, lots of lovely lotions and potions, a book on Wild Swimming, a house plant, and even a matching apron and pot holder set and I don't think I've even scratched the surface!
We had so many prizes we decided to play in pairs, so that two prizes were given away each time. We played a mixture of games including the first to get a horizontal line, a vertical line, a diagonal line and a full house. Just about everyone won a prize in the end, and I think we were all pleased to arrive with something we didn't really want and go home with something we actually did!
Both Kim and Fiona got to call the numbers and practice a bit of 'bingo lingo', two little ducks, legs eleven, etc., there is a huge list of them but I'm afraid it will have to wait til our next bingo session and even then we may not get around to learning them all. This meeting turned out to be a really great icebreaker for our members who may not know each other very well, and also the visitors who came to try us out. Our visitors all went away having had a fun evening and taking with them a prize or two and a membership form to join up in time for the next meeting!
Other business involved voting for next year's resolution on which the whole WI will campaign nationwide. The choices were:
Save our water - every drop matters
Women to women - turning over a new leaf in the lives of women tea workers
Online gambling harm: time for action
Clean rivers for people and wildlife
Option one got our vote, but we will have to wait for the results of the votes from all of the WIs across the country before we know which we will be campaigning on, in my opinion it doesn't really matter as they are all fantastic causes and worthy of our efforts.
You may have seen our Calendar published in the BBH Village magazine, but there has been a slight change to one or two of the months so take a look here or on our website for the up-to-date version.
If you think all this sounds like fun, just come along to any meeting, your first is free, and if you like what you find you can join up and become a Bombshell there and then or at your next meeting.
