Too Much Clutter? Read This!

Rarely has a meeting created such a buzz of interest and discussion both before, during and after the event! Our WhatsApp group was pinging away like crazy the following day, so what caused this reaction? Our visiting speaker Mimi Bogelund, that's what, or should I say who!

Mimi was one of the most engaging speakers that we've had for a long time, it helped, I suppose because the subject of her talk was about the one thing that we all struggle with every day of our lives: stuff and how to deal with it. Mimi was a fount of all knowledge on the tips and tricks of organising your life and everything in it.

Mimi left a long business career and discovered The Marie Kondo concept which allowed her to transform her home and banish clutter once and for all. After extensive training with Marie, Mimi now runs a successful business (The Organised Home & Life) helping people to realise an impossible dream: a well-functioning, organised, comfortable home.

So we all have those areas, in our homes that are dumping grounds for things in transit or that don't have homes, perhaps it's just a table top, a drawer, a cupboard or perhaps it's a room or maybe it's your entire house? If so you need to click on that link above and call Mimi quick!

Or there are a few simple things that you can do to make a start on your own. Mimi very helpfully explains the basics of the The KonMari Method® on her website and for those of you who are determined, these basics are a great way to get the ball rolling.

In brief the idea is to:

1) Commit to tidying up

2) Imagine your ideal lifestyle

3) Tidy by category not location

4) Follow the right order

5) Hone your sensitivity to what ‘Sparks Joy’

6) Finish discarding first

The recommended order to tackle your stuff is clothes, books, papers, miscellaneous and sentimental items. The principle is to start with a category that is easy for you to develop your ‘tidying-muscles’. As you come across sentimental items in any category, you can leave those to be tidied last of all.

Lots of Mimi's advice stuck in my mind, in particular one bit that I will use every day is making sure that everything has a home. This is so that you know where your things are at all times and don't either waste endless amounts of time looking for them, or buy another one... and another one... and another one! Come on we've all done it!

Mimi gave us lots of tips for sorting clothes, prompting one of our lovely members to admit she had 112 pairs of trousers! I think she was planning on thinning out her collection and once she had decided what items to keep, Mimi had plenty of ideas for hanging and folding clothes for easy access storage.

One of Mimi's tips was to get hold of some of these amazing fabric boxes... and if I know anything about the Bombshells, just about everyone who was there has probably already ordered a job lot of them and reorganised their jumpers, T-shirts, vests, jeans and knickers. Here's to immaculate drawers!

So hopefully next time you visit a Bombshell her home will be a haven of organisation and Zen like calm! (Hahahaha!)

The three books below come highly recommended by Mimi, something for your Chirstmas wishlist perhaps?

Our next meeting is our popular Pumpkin Carving Competition. Please bring along your pre-hollowed out pumpkin, something to work on to protect the table, your tools and imagination. There will be a prize for the best carving voted by your fellow Bombshells. If you aren't already a member please come a long anyway, your first meeting is free!

We will be meeting at 7.30pm at the alternative venue of Shelley Primary School on Wickhurst Lane BBH RH12 3LU.
