We are all volunteers here at Broadbridge Bombshells Committee HQ, and whilst we all love being part of this fab group, we still like to go on holiday once in a while. So apologies for being a bit late with July's blog, so late in fact that I've merged July with August... and guess what? September is already upon us!
So cast your minds back to July if you can... our intention if the weather was good enough was to meet up on the Ducky for our yearly outside, sporty meeting. We had planned a picnic and an optional game of rounders. The weather was perfect, a still, balmy evening and our lovely members arrived with their picnic blankets, folding chairs and Tupperware boxes stuffed full of picnic food. Firstly we all got down to the serious business of eating, and drinking our wine, Prosecco, the odd can of G&T and of course soft drinks and water, essential for keeping up hydration which is very important when playing sport.
As it turned out however, whilst I had brought along our 'Deluxe' rounders set, and jumpers for bases, not many of our members had brought along their competitive spirit! Also it being holiday season, some of our sportier members were unfortunately (although not for them) away on their holidays. We kept saying we'd open the rounders set and have a knock about, but the further into our food and wine we got, the further away a game of rounders became. However, the positive of this was that we were able to spend the whole evening chatting and getting to know one another which is always a real pleasure. And it was especially good for our visitor, who I'm now pleased to say is a member which is proof that we are a very welcoming, friendly bunch of women. Needless to say darkness had well and truly fallen when we packed up and made our ways home!
So on to our August meeting, which was not so long ago. This was also a fun and social occasion, with one of our legendary quizzes thrown in for good measure. I say legendary because our quiz meetings have always been hilarious occasions, and this time even more so because of a new category called the Saucy Section. Keep reading for a sample of the questions.
The other new category was a West Sussex Section, where we learned lots of interesting facts about the county we live in. There were also categories on Film and TV as well as Food and Drink. No special knowledge was necessary, just a sense of fun which we all have in spades at the Bombshells!
We welcomed several visitors who had come along to give us a try, so it was nice to be able to sit and chat and get to know them as we all got split into teams to pit against each other! A fabulous prize of a haul of chocolate was up for grabs so as you can imagine tensions were running high.
As it turned out the teams were all evenly matched and the level of knowledge was good across the board. We did wonder if we might have to have a tie break question, which elicited a bit of a panic for quiz hosts Joan and Mary, but fortunately there was one team that had pipped everyone else to the post by the margin of just one point. So congratulations go to team 'Sparkles' who beat everyone to the the winner's podium; well done Lorena, Kelly, Shirley, Linda and Edeline, us losers hope you enjoyed your chocolate spoils!
It was lovely to see all of the visiting new faces, we hope they enjoyed being with us as much as we enjoyed having them. We also hope very much they will be coming along to our next meeting. If you would like to come along too, please meet us at St John's Church Hall, Tuesday 27th September at 8pm for a talk called 'All About the Menopause'.
Please join our menopause advisor, Rowena for an informative evening and some lively discussion. We'd love to hear all about your experiences about the menopause, and together we hope to offer help and support and hopefully a few good ideas on how to navigate our way through this phase of life.
So if you are pre, peri or post menopause, come along, there will be something for everyone, and please remember to bring wine and snacks!
Your first meeting is always free, so what's stopping you?
