Meet The Bombshells

Every WI is an individual charity run by a committee elected from its members. Teamwork and enthusiasm is the key to running a successful WI, and The Bombshells are no exception.

The following roles are voluntary and are usually held for one, year. All Officer roles and Committee members are voted for by the Broadbridge Bombshells WI members every year.

Sandra - President

Sandra is our new President taking on the role just this year.

Fiona - Vice President & PR Secretary

I joined the Bombshells in 2018 as a founding member in and kind of fell into the role of PR Secretary and committee member. I quickly realised that the only way to make this WI one I wanted to attend was to jump in feet first and be involved in all the decisions.

As PR Secretary I have learned how to run a public Facebook page and private group, run an Instagram account, build a website from scratch and  write a blog. And as a Committee member I've been involved with all aspects of planning meetings, running clubs and fundraising for a WI.

In July 2021 I was voted into the officer role of Vice President and I found myself hosting (eek public speaking!!) our first face to face meeting since lockdown. If anybody would have told me I'd have the guts to do all this when I joined I would have laughed at them. Instead I have all of these achievements under my belt and belong to a great group of women whom I'm proud to call my friends. The WI campaigns for many wonderful causes for women and the wider world and the advancement of women's rights and education, but it is also a great way to make friends, have fun, learn new skills. I am so glad I joined!

Joan - Treasurer

I joined the Bombshells in 2020.

When I moved to Horsham I knew nobody locally, so I was looking for somewhere to meet people and share a chat and, hopefully, a glass of wine occasionally.

I knew very little about the W.I. so thought the best way to find out would be to join in. My introduction has been rather strange, with Covid playing a big part in my first year, so meetings have been via Zoom.

However, I am looking forward to taking on the role of treasurer and hoping to get to meet all those faces in person in future.

I worked in a school in Banstead for 10 years, so I have had lots of practise at various craft activities which I enjoy, even if I am not proficient. So I am keen to try out some new activities and improve the crafting skills!

Maire - Secretary

I am a new member to the Bombshells this year. I joined because it looked like a fun time would be had with a new bunch of ladies, and I wasn't wrong!

I am already seeing the different aspects of the WI Broadbridge Bombshells style... so far I have been to a Bingo and cocktail evening both of which have been fun and welcoming, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the meetings we have planned this year.

As I am the Membership Secretary of a tennis club it seemed a good idea to stand for the role of Secretary at the Bombshells when it became available. I am looking forward to taking on this new role and all that it entails, the committee are a really supportive group and I'm enjoying the challenge so far!

The Committee

The role of the committee is to organise meetings, plan fundraising events and generally take care of the behind-the-scenes running of a WI group.

We hold committee meetings once a month and being a committee member means that you can have more of an input into what happens at your WI, literally making it into a group that you would want to join! So if you are interested in becoming  more involved there may be a space for you!

Our committee currently consists of eight Bombshells, our four officers above and another four members who perform the following different duties:

Membership Secretary - Kelly,

Social Secretaries - Lorena and Mel

Program Manager - Kim
